Family friendly sail design workshops, a touring exhibition, a sail raising event and a prototype sail installed at Salthouse Fields in Clevedon

As part of Phase One, a series of hands-on workshops was run by local artist, Sam Francis. Sam will create a design for the sail based on the ideas that come out of these workshops.
On the day that the sail is installed there will be sail raising event and picnic at Salthouse Fields in Clevedon for everyone who has been involved. The sail will then remain up throughout September. An exhibition touring North Somerset libraries will run in conjunction with the sail installation

Weston-super-Mare Library
Saturday 20 July 2024, 2 – 4pm
A hands-on workshop run by Sam Francis for people of all ages. This will be a making and doing session bringing together ideas and inspiration that will lead to the design for the prototype sail installed at Salthouse Fields in Clevedon.

Yatton

Flotilla Phase One events
Sail launch event
24 July 2025
Join us for the launch of the sail sculpture. This will be a chance to see the sail, find out more about the project and talk to the artists behind it. We will also put up the designs that came out of the sail design workshops from last year and hopefully be joined by some of the people who got involved.
At Salthouse Fields, Clevedon BS21 7XS. Neat the Marine Lake, Play area and Neads a Coffee hut.
Sail on display
The prototype sail is now on display in the seafront park at Salthouse Fields in Clevedon. This 12m tall, colourful animated sculpture will turn on its axis when the wind is strong, responding to the ever changing weather. An interpretation sign near the sail will be installed soon telling visitors about the Flotilla project and the ideas behind it.

Exhibition at Weston Museum
11 September to 1 November 2025
Three exhibition banners went on display at Weston Museum, Weston-Super-Mare. These showed the evolution of the project and details about the two phases and asked for feedback on Phase 2. The exhibition was used for school learning sessions focussed on coastlines.
