After the storm

The mainsail was ripped from the top of the mast during the 55 mph winds blowing in from the Bristol Channel

I received texts and calls this morning from members of the public letting me know that one of the sails had come down in the storm we had last night.

The weak links designed to fail in heavy winds to avoid excess loading on the mast, in the end weren’t the first thing to fail. The sail actually came away due to the unravelling of a splice attaching the halyard to the top of the sail.
