Sail painting – Day 3

Finished painting the sails in the nick of time on the final day of the studio space rental. Rigging the sails is due in less than a week.

Working on my own this time in a deserted studio. It was a Saturday with a lot going on out in the world. I was surrounded by a huge cast of puppet characters though. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) none of them came to life!

This last painting day was the simplest so far. It was just a case of painting the design on the other side of the sail, following the design that showed through from the other side. I was hoping, originally, that the acrylic ink would soak through the fabric completely so we would only have to paint one side. Instead it just appeared patchy with the ink coming through in s one areas but not others, so the there was no getting around painting both sides.

What was satisfying, though, was that the colours back to back appeared much richer and more even.
