The rigging workshop
Establishing a plan for rigging the sail structure, down on Bristol's historic harbour. A location close to the turn of the turn of the Avon as it heads out through the Avon gorge, where they have been rigging boats for centuries.
It always exciting to go down to the Undefall Yard at the far end of Bristol’s Floating Harbour. This corner of Bristol has a bit of the feel of a small fishing port in Devon or Cornwall, or at times stepping back 150 years. It’s no museum though. This an area of boat builders and small maritime business – and it is the sight, sound and small of these activities along with the old granite harbour walls, etched brick and timber that create it’s particular atmosphere.
This time I was down there to Meet Jay Redman-Stainer at Traditional Rigging, right on the water. We went through the drawings and ideas behind the project to work out how we would rig the structure to carry the sail.
