  1. Whilst I like the concept of the sail design at Clevedon (Phase 1) and understand the synergy of the art with Clevedon and the sea, I am not understanding why the sail design is in a “Japanese” style? What is the connection? Can we have a design which is relevant to the people of Clevedon now or then? As for Phase 2, I think the idea of the representation of sailing boats dotted across the Somerset levels disrespectful of the wonderful landscape and cultural history of this area. The wetland landscape has no connection with sailing ships- it’s an area of natural beauty and diverse wildlife. It does not need man-made objects scattered amongst its intricate marshes. I vehemently object to Phase 2.

  2. I love this project! So proud that Clevedon was chosen as the location for Phase 1, and really looking forward to seeing more of these around as Phase 2 gets underway.

  3. We are taking down electricity pilons to protect the landscape. We object to wind turbines that may help reduce our electricity bills and help towards climate change but we are happy ro cover North Somerset in boat sails that serve no purpose and spend funds that could be uses elsewhere….. it is pretty but not a priority.

  4. I didn’t think Clevedon could be improved, but every time I walk across Salt Fields the flotilla sail is a majestic sight to behold and is an excellent addition to the landscape. What a feat of ingenuity and engineering. An original idea, representing both local heritage and pointing towards a distictly possible future as the world around us changes at our own hands.

I would love to see other sails go up across North Somerset. I think they would be an intriguing feature to witness whilst travelling through the lanes and fields. I also think it is important to be reminded of the past so that we may do things differently for the future.

  5. It looks great and would look wonderful over the north somerset levels. A real tourist attraction and creating a wonderful view.

  6. My dogs , like all passing dogs think it useful! Just one more thing to destroy the salthouse field. Approaching this useless ‘thing’ it merges with the ice cream banners . it needs to go. not creative at all. d Do we really need to litter the earth with more useless objects.

  7. Very impressed with phase 1 of flotilla, and the concept behind it, and can’t wait to see phase 2! Great work
